For my first blog, I would like to describe the meaning of the business logo. Each element of the logo—the title of the business, the eagle, the slogan, and even the color scheme—is meant to communicate something specific.
Business Name
The business name, Exceptional Academic Editing, appears at the top of the logo.
Exceptional
I chose the word “exceptional” for two reasons. First, it describes the kind of service you can expect when we work together. I am thorough and perform tasks with meticulous attention to detail. I will treat your work with the care it deserves and help you produce high-quality work you can be proud of.
Secondly, the word “exceptional” describes a personal philosophy I have about a lifestyle we all need to be living. I believe that we were not created to be mediocre, ordinary, or average. We were created to be exceptional. To me, that means testing our limits and pushing ourselves beyond what is thought to be humanly possible. It means living in a way that is nothing less than excellent, unique, remarkable, and outstanding. Don't be "less than." Be exceptional!
Academic
Simply put, the word "academic" describes what kind of editing I offer. It's not video editing. It's the editing of writing. Specifically, this business specializes in the editing of academic writing.
Editing
Finally, the word “editing” describes one kind of help I offer. Editing is more than proofreading. Be sure to read about the levels of editing in the Services section. Choose one or more levels of editing, depending on what you need.
Eagle
My choice to have an eagle for the image conveys something deeply intentional. There is some symbolism here. Eagles’ instincts tell them when a storm is coming. Unlike other birds, eagles do not try to fly away from storms. Instead, they prepare their bodies, and when a storm is upon them, they position their wings and use the turbulence from that storm to propel them higher. I'm using the eagle as a metaphor for graduate students. If you are a graduate student, you know that graduate school is full of challenges. Particularly now, if you are writing your thesis or dissertation, you may be experiencing all kinds of difficulties and obstacles. Those are your “storms.” Along with those “storms,” you may be experiencing “turbulence,” that is, doubt, unrest, and anxiety from various pressures. There is also a sense of “turbulence” that can come from feeling that some things are out of your control. Like an eagle, you can take those “storms,” and you can use that “turbulence” to propel yourself higher. You can rise above those difficulties so that you can then go on and pursue higher goals related to your life purpose. This short inspirational video below explains it well:
Slogan
The slogan, “Helping You to Rise and Fly,” appears under the eagle.
During the difficult times of the Great Depression, my great-grandmother used to say that she was going to "rise and fly," meaning that she planned on transcending difficult circumstances (“rise”) and that she planned to go on to live a good life (“fly”).
Nanny’s idea here reinforces the significance of the eagle image. If you are a graduate student, you know the difficulties that writing a thesis or dissertation can present. I'd like to be there with you and for you, to help you transcend those difficulties and get your degree (“rise”) so that you can move on and pursue the life you want (“fly”).
Colors
The colors I chose communicate a little about me, a little about the business, and a little about the experiences of writing a thesis and a dissertation.
The color gold is often associated with what we believe to be exceptional. For instance, gold medals, gold stars, and gold trophies honor people who are exceptional in some way. I chose gold here to represent my personal philosophy that we were created to be exceptional, not ordinary.
For some reason, I’ve always associated black and gold with academics. Since this business focuses on academic writing, the black and gold align with that association. Additionally, the gold signifies the exceptional quality of work I hope to offer clients.
Finally, the black and gold colors symbolize the experiences I had while writing my thesis and dissertation. Perhaps this will resonate with you, if you are writing one. There were times that I felt as though I was in the dark (represented by the black), but then there would come times of breakthroughs and insights, in other words, "light" (represented by the gold).
Every decision that went into creating the logo was made with a specific purpose, for sure. Each part contributes to the vision and mission of the business. Now, do you need someone to support you in producing exceptional work? Do you want to be an eagle? Are you ready to rise and fly? Let’s do this!
